Who We Are: Maddi Wilson

Not Just a Martial Art, a Way of Life

Age 16, Blue Belt

My name is Maddi Wilson I have been doing BJJ since I was 10 years old, this is my 7th year. My parents firstly signed my younger brother up. Each lesson I would go and watch with mum. Just from watching I fell in love with not only BJJ but Axis and asked mum if I could join. That’s where my whole BJJ journey begun.

BJJ has been a huge part of my life and has truly taught me to stay humble, hardworking and disciplined. Like anything, BJJ has its challenges, one of my biggest would be moving from kids classes to adult classes. This was challenging for multiple reasons, I had to leave all my friends in which I had trained with since day one and enter a completely new class with new people and learn to fight with much larger opponents, as for a 16 year old I’m tiny. Everything changed and it felt as though I was starting BJJ all over again. But with the positive and welcoming culture of Axis I soon felt a sense of belonging I cannot thank Axis BJJ enough. I have meet the most amazing people who have helped me grow and force me out of my comfort zone… all the time. Thanks Luna x

I have been asked “What keeps you coming back to BJJ?”, and my answer is “Why wouldn’t I come back to this?”
