My old flatmate talked about it all the time and I really had no idea what it was. So as a new year activity I decided to tag along with him and see what all the fuss was about. I was hooked (no pun intended) pretty much straight away.
The biggest challenge for me is remembering all the options you have in positions. I can easily get carried away sticking to a few different submissions and not push to try new things I have learnt or use submissions I learnt a while back.
Everyone is friendly, welcoming and fun to roll with. I have never trained at a club in any sport where I have made so many friends. But also, the physical aspect to Jiu Jitsu, learning how to move and control my body and someone else’s. My self-confidence has definitely gone up because of it.
Jiu Jitsu has changed my life in many ways, whether that’s friends, physically feeling strong and confident or just learning something new. I usually move on to other sporting activities after a couple years but Jiu Jitsu is still going strong after 4 years.
